Our Origin

A place for all students in space

What We Do

Diamond Grove Scholars (DGS) is a research community and non-profit working to engage and involve K-12 and college students in the space industry. All fields have a part to play in space, and so all students have a place here!

Our mission is to create a place for all students to engage and stay engaged with the space industry.

Our Goals

DGS is continuously working towards our 4 core goals to better the student experience

K-12 Outreach

Share the excitement of space with pre-college youth and provide awareness of the various career paths to space.

College Outreach

Support a collaborative community for college students to get engaged in the space industry through workshops, speaker events, research projects, and socials.

Workforce Development

Connect college students to the industry, government, and academia so they can apply their skills.

Chapter Expansion

Grow DGS beyond OSU and Ohio. Expand to other universities to connect a larger community of students.

How we Started

Our full origin story

Starlab, Ohio State, and GWCSP In September of 2022, Ohio State was selected to host the ground terrestrial location for Starlab, the first commercial space station that will launch in 2029. This ground location will be a part of the George Washington Carver Science Park (GWCSP), a first-of-its-kind university research park dedicated to commercial spaceflight research and economic development. GWCSP is named after the revolutionary Agricultural Engineer, Dr. George Washington Carver. One part of the park will be the Starlab Ground Location (SGL-US), a key component of Starlab's business model, working to develop payloads.

The Start of DGS With the partnership of Starlab and Ohio State came the creation of DGS. It all started with 7 students talking in a room about how they could engage students with the exciting industry known as space. The students varied in fields, from engineering and microbiology to astronomy. It was and still is one of DGS' core values to engage students from all fields becuase the limits to space are boundless. Diamond Grove Scholars got its name from the birthplace of Dr. Carver which is a small crossroad in southern Missouri called Diamond Grove.

First Active Year DGS opened up to the Ohio State student body in the fall of 2023. After two semesters, DGS engaged with 120 K-12 students and over 50 college students.

DGS Started its Second Chapter In the fall of 2024, DGS started its second chapter at the Ohio Wesleyan University. One of DGS' goals is to expand its efforts to engage as many students in the space industry as possible.

What's Next for DGS

The sky is not the limit, our imagination is

DGS will continue to engage more students and fields in space and expand our reach. As Dr. Carver once said "Start where you are, with what you have. Make something of it, and never be satisfied." As an outreach organization, we took that to heart.
